Our Story

About Us

The Roots Peony Farm LLC started with a need to bring something unique to Ludington, Michigan.  The owner, Troy Veeneman and his family have a deeply rooted history with peony flowers dating back to their family’s apple farm in Conklin, Michigan.  The farm’s driveway was lined with the historic flowers.

As we looked around, we asked, “What could that be?”

Timeline

Our farm has sourced and planted choice roots from The Netherlands, only the best from one of the best growers on the planet.  The roots were planted through a partnership with many hard working students from a local school, G2S Academy.  The students worked hard learning about soil, laying weed barriers, and of course marking, burning fabric and then digging thousands of holes.  The students earned class credit and were able to all have the opportunity to plant the peony roots.  A partnership with a local supplier, The Market helped the farm to secure premium soil from a Michigan company Dairy Doo.

PLANTING

Spring/Summer 2026 and 2027 we will be focusing on strengthening the roots.  This will be done through the process of deadheading.  As soon as the buds appear on our plants we unfortunately will clipping them off or “deadheading” them.  It's hard not to just let them bloom.  But this will ensure the energy that the plant will create will go back to the roots instead of the few flowers the plant may produce

WAITING

In the Spring/Summers of 2028 and 2029 we will begin selling wholesale to Local Flower shops in the Ludington area.  All Occasions Floral, Bela Floral, The Market and The Orchard Market are a few of the places you will be able to buy from.

SELLING WHOLESALE

Starting in the Spring/Summer 2030 we will still still be selling wholesale to markets but we will also open the farm to a “u-pick” opportunity.  This will be available to the public through a reservation process as the flowers are about to bloom.  Other activities on the farm will include photo opportunities and small tours.
